Sri Lankas rich history gives us many interesting places of interest, for example;

Aradnapura, capital of 1st kingdom of Sri Lanka, cradle of Sinhala civilization. World heritage site with ancient ruins, large stupas and the world´s oldest tree planted, 288 b.c.

Dambulla cave temple, Sri Lanka largest and best preserved, with wall painting and carved stone buddhas in 5 big caves towering 150 meters above the plains. History goes back to 100 B.C. with the monastery still functional

Sigiria rock fortress and old capital of ancient north kingdom. Stunning mountain and architectual ruins with an interesting history of feud between father and two sons over the throne. World heritage.

Birding

Anawilundawa

Fascinating birds of all shapes and colours. More than 400 species are found on Sri Lanka. Some of them endemic to the Island and not found anywhere else.

Anawilundawa bird sanctuary, a large wetland with character from the ocean and mangroves to fresh water tanks with 150 species of birds and 20 mammals and 74 butterflies.

Fresh products directly from the Chilaw market or the local fishermen on the beach.

The Chilaw fruit, vegetable and fish market are open early mornings until midday. An excursion to the market is a show. Hop on the local bus or go by tuk-tuk. You will have a great experience.
